If My Body Is a Temple Then I Was a Megachurch My Journey of Losing 132 Pounds with No Exercise (Audible Audio Edition) Scott Davis Tim Luke Mark Lowry foreword christianaudiocom Books

This book starts off with hilarious humor and then gets more personal as the author details his struggles with sinful gluttony and losing weight. I read it mostly for the humor because I'm at a healthy weight, but it also scared me a little, so I'm going to be more careful about what I allow into my temple. The theology in the book is solid and it's encouraging to see the gift of evangelism being used effectively by the Spirit of God in his life. Overall it's an engaging personal memoir and it will especially hit home with anyone who struggles with an addiction. Whatever your false idol is, you will probably see some of it in here. The shame and guilt, the hiding and binging, the self destruction and spiritual damage are all present here as they are with any false idol and addiction.

I especially recommend this book for anyone who struggles with weight. It will encourage you and help you see hope where maybe you have none. It's not a weight loss plan and what he used may not be for everybody, but as he says in the book self control is the key for 99.9% of people. You will find some food for thought in here and that will fill you up mentally and spiritually. It will last longer than a cheeseburger and will be better for you. This was free for me on Kindle, but if you are struggling with health issues and are looking at an early death, buy this book and get motivated to rebuild the temple of God. We are called to glorify God with our lives and with our bodies.

I can't remember a time in my life that I wasn't desperately hungering for this book! When as a child even my sisters would call me fatso. When as a teenager the boys would pick me first for the football game, but never ask me out on a date. When between the ages of 18 & 20, my ideal of being wanted by a man, was being raped. When at the age of 21, I lost my father, the only person who ever told me I was beautiful. When I spent the last 30 years hating myself for how ugly I had become, knowing that no man would ever want me or find me attractive, and even believing for most of those 30 years that God hated me and had abandoned me. Oh, how I longed for a this book!

In "If My Body is a Temple, Then I Was a Megachurch", Scott Davis shares through laughter and tears his struggles with his weight, his life on the road, the embarrassing times, the funny times, and the sad and hurtful moments that came from being overweight, but he also shares those inspirational times. Davis shares intimate moments during his journey, before and after his decision to make changes in his life. How our strengths can also be our weaknesses. Davis shares about the love of his family and friends, who were his biggest support system, even as they in many cases had to use "tough love" to show that support.

Davis shares the plan that he used to lose over 100 pounds in six months (with no exercise), but more than that he shares how the love of God encouraged him moment to moment, day to day, month to month. How his passion and love for God, and the desire to always be obedient to God's Word, kept him on the path to transforming his body into a "Temple of God". Using scripture after scripture, Davis shows how losing weight is just as much about our relationship with God as it is physical, and how prayer can transform not only our bodies, but all areas of our lives.

In "If My Body is a Temple, Then I Was a Megachurch", Davis shares that giving God all of ourselves is the only way we can truly make the changes in our lives that glorify God.

For me this is not just a book about how to lose weight....it's a funny and at times sad look at life. A look at how our actions and words can affect others lives. How we can be encouragers instead of enablers. How an ill-timed joke can cause others pain. It's a book about taking responsibility for our own actions at the dinner table. About taking ownership of what we are and not blaming others. It's a book about the love of family and friends, but mostly about the love of God, and the tranformations we can all make in all areas of our lives when we give back to God everything that He has given us, and let Him be the pilot of our journey.

It's a book of hope!!!!!!!!"
I haven't finished reading it yet, just because I haven't had time, not because it isn't interesting. He is funny, and I really appreciate his honesty about his weight issues. It is definitely worth ready, and I plan to finish reading the book. It is an encouraging, uplifting book about a difficult subject.
Hysterically true. I could easily relate.
Good book. I have been on Quick Weight Loss a couple of times. It wirks. I still struggle. I needed some inspration and this book was very helpful.
I'll be frank, I only read this because I saw that Mark Lowry had written a foreword. Once I started reading the book, though, I liked the way the author talked about weight loss and the primary whys of doing so. I'd just as soon he hadn't mentioned QWLCA so much that I actually remember the acronym, but, hey...they did help him lose weight, and he's grateful.
There was definitely some good information in this book and I enjoyed the humor.

I may be mistaken but I believe this book was written simply as Scott Davis's personal experience and that he was not paid to endorse the weight loss center he used. However, he gives such high praise to the center that it might as well have been an advertisement for the center.

That being said, I believe there is still worthwhile information here. It is one person's journey and not necessarily a plan. He shares some pretty detailed information about his plan but it was a personalized plan designed for him. There are some principles included that might be successfully copied, but it's still HIS plan and his success story.
I can't recommend this book enough to people who struggle with being overweight and food addiction. I found myself identifying with much of what he had to say and I don't think it is coincidence that the book came into my hands now as I am 3 weeks into embarking on a healthier lifestyle.

So many excellent and useful points he makes as he chronicles his own experiences. Bless him and his wife Donna for sharing, in perfect candor, what the journey was like.

The only part I disagreed with was the assertion that eating healthier is cheaper and speedier (to prepare) as I have found the opposite to be true. Nevertheless, it cannot be allowed to become an obstacle to good health.

And frankly, even if you don't have a food addiction or weigh too much, Scott is absolutely hilarious. He made me laugh out loud so many times I lost count.

This book is a blessing.
